BOTOX Cosmetic ®
At Professional Skin Care, we have qualified professionals handling Botox Cosmetic injections to ensure you receive the best treatment possible. We are nationally renowned for our Botox Cosmetic injections and provide a superior service to our customers.
Botox Cosmetic (a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria) has been used safely by opthalmologists for over 20 years. Botox Cosmetic has been used for wrinkle therapy since the early 1990's with no serious side effects documented.
Botox Cosmetic injections relax the muscles that create wrinkles thereby lessening the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines and crow's feet.
A small amount of Botox Cosmetic is injected right into the muscles that are responsible for creating wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic effectively inactivates the muscles that produce wrinkles, thereby causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically. It may take a few days to notice the wrinkle smoothing effect after receiving Botox Cosmetic injections.
Some of the common areas treated include crow's feet, frown lines, laugh lines, and forehead wrinkles.
A Botox Cosmetic treatment is quick and results usually last three to six months. After that you may return for a follow-up injection. Some doctors report that after several treatments, the effect of Botox Cosmetic appears to last longer, often up to several months.
The most common complication is a slight, temporary drooping of the eyelid. Botox Cosmetic is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body so you can return to full activity immediately.
Botox Cosmetic can be used by almost anyone: patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or who have a neurologic disease should not use Botox Cosmetic.
A newer use for Botox Cosmetic includes reduction in sweating of armpits (hyperhydrosis). The results can usually be enjoyed for 6-9 months.
Microdermabrasion is a technique for removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it supple and vibrant. The DiamondTome Wand removes this layer of skin by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips, while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner. Removing this outer layer of dead skin cells leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells.
Microdermabrasion is a wonderful alternative to laser or chemical peels because it is non-invasive, non-surgical and requires no down time after treatment. Normal activities may be resumed immediately. Your skin will have a radiant glow, free of irritation and loose particles. Clients experience softer, smoother and cleaner skin after the first treatment. Treatment series vary from four to ten sessions depending on the condition being treated and the type of skin.
Regular removal of the keratin layer can improve the appearance of:
- Fine wrinkles
- Dull skin
- Hyperpigmentation (sun damage)
Some physicians have seen an improvement caused by collagen tightening on the layer of skin beneath the layer treated by microdermabrasion. This further reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles though the effect is temporary: microdermabrasion treatments must be repeated in order to sustain the effect.
Following microdermabrasion treatment you may find that you experience skin peeling; we will recommend that you use a moisturizer and sun screen following the procedure.
Microdermabrasion is not recommended for anyone who has taken the acne drug Accutane within the past six months because there is a risk of creating scar or injury.
And because there is a risk that microdermabrasion may stimulate a new outbreak, patients who have a history of herpes simplex (cold sores) around their lips should consider taking an oral antiviral medication before undergoing treatment by microdermabrasion.
Juvederm is designed to replenish what natural aging takes away, for a fresher, rejuvenated look. Replenish what's been lost over time: sun exposure, hormonal changes and aging can all have an impact on your skin's appearance. Over time, your skin begins to lose hyaluronic acid and collagen, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and a loss of fullness and elasticity.
Healthcare professionals can now reverse these signs of aging by correcting the wrinkles and folds and adding volume to sunken skin. Juvéderm is a soft, injectable gel filler that your doctor uses to help replenish and refresh your appearance. It uses hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar found in your body), which combines with the water in your skin to instantly restore lost volume and reduce lines and wrinkles.
Hyaluronic injections have also been shown to stimulate collagen production. Not only that, Juvéderm works to enhance and define lips, cheeks and jaw line.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA, the newest facial filler available in the Juvederm family of hyaluronic acid fillers. The first of its kind, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is a hyaluronic acid facial filler specifically made to restore age-related volume loss in the mid-face (the cheeks, cheekbones and around the chin). JUVÉDERM VOLUMA uses hyaluronic acid, a sugar that occurs naturally in your skin, to instantly restore lost facial volume in the cheeks and contour the chin. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA also combines with collagen and elastin to improve skin structure and elasticity, and create a smooth natural look. The results are instant, natural looking and can last up to 18 months. Plus there's no downtime – most people resume normal activities immediately.
If procedures like laser resurfacing require a recovery period that you do not have time for, you may want to consider skin rejuvenation using Laser Genesis Skin Therapy, one of the latest procedures to improve the appearance of aging skin.
Laser Genesis is perfect for those whose skin reflects early signs of aging and who cannot afford the recovery time associated with other procedures.
Laser Genesis or "light facials" work without the deep resurfacing caused by high energy pulsed CO2 and Erbium YAG lasers.
While it is not a substitute for other procedures, Laser Genesis can be used to enhance the results of other cosmetic procedures such as laser resurfacing, face lift and chemical peels.
Laser Genesis can improve:
- sun damage
- fine wrinkles
- irregular pigmentation
- brown age spots
- dilated capillaries
Patients with minor wrinkling, blotchiness and obvious facial blood vessels can expect good results. Those who have deeper wrinkles and scars will require more treatments.
Each treatment takes about 45 minutes. Treatments feel a little like a rubber band being snapped on your skin; anesthesia is not required.
Skin will appear flushed right after treatment and capillaries may be more visible. Age spots may also appear slightly darker for a few days after the first treatment. These changes will diminish gradually, however. You will see visible improvement after each treatment.
Many people see an improvement after their first treatment.
Avoid tanning before and after Laser Genesis treatments as tanning will enhance uneven skin color.
For best results, a series of 5 treatments in combination with microdermabrasion, at 3 week intervals is recommended. Maintenance treatments are recommended, depending on your individual needs.
Each day, our skin cells die, flake off and are replaced by new cells from beneath. As we age, this process happens less often. As a result, the skin becomes wrinkled and blotchy and begins to show signs of age.
Through the application of a chemical solution used to remove dead skin cells, a chemical peel tightens the skin and reduces wrinkling. This results in the stimulation and production of new skin cells and restores a more youthful appearance.
Like laser resurfacing, the chemical peel works by removing the top layers of the skin to expose unlined, new skin underneath. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose.
The Obagi Blue Peel is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. The results of TCA peel are usually less dramatic than and not as long-lasting as those of laser resurfacing.
During a chemical peel a chemical solution is applied to smooth and generally improve the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers.
Each year thousands of chemical peels are performed.
While laser resurfacing has replaced the chemical peel to some extent in recent years, we feel the chemical peel still has certain advantages over laser peeling. There are also some drawbacks associated with laser resurfacing that are not always associated with chemical peels. These include the lingering residual redness of the skin that can sometimes be a side effect of laser resurfacing.
We will be happy to discuss the advantages of the chemical peel with you during your consultation. If you have a history of herpes, you should inform us during your consultation.
A number of skin conditions can be improved with a chemical peel:
- superficial lines and wrinkles
- oily skin
- sun-damaged skin
- age spots
- dull complexion
While a chemical peel is not a substitute for a facelift, it can be performed with a facelift as an additional step in the rejuvenation process.
Laser Hair Removal
Traditional hair removal techniques like shaving, plucking and waxing, provide only temporary relief and may actually stimulate hair growth. Electrolysis often requires years of ongoing treatments.
The CoolGlide Xeo is the best laser hair removal system on the market for all skin tones, from light to dark, including tanned patients. The unique design, longer wavelength, and innovative cooling design allow extremely effective, safe and permanent results.
The CoolGlide can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. They can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line.
As the name implies, the CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required.
Most areas require 4-8 treatments, but the number of CoolGlide Laser treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hair's thickness, the area treated, and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting.
CoolGlide Lasers work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.
Immediately following your CoolGlide Laser treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Around 3-7 days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment, and are not regrowing. In-between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. The CoolGlide Laser offers longer lasting results for your hair removal needs.
Pigmentation & Reversing Signs of Sun Damage
As many as 90 percent of patients age 65 years or older have solar lentigos, according to an article in Archive of Dermatology. These sun spots or age spots, as they are commonly called, are caused by chronic sun exposure.
The unique pulsed light handpiece on the CoolGlide Xeo and Genesis Plus has been optimized for treating solar lentigines and age spots, while optimizing patient comfort and results.
Facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create smoother-looking skin. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, arms and hands.
IPL is a safe, non-invasive solution that can be customized to your individual needs and will provide superior cosmetic results and high levels of satisfaction.
IPL is non-invasive and very safe. You can usually return directly to work and apply makeup immediately. You can resume all your activities (except sun exposure) immediately. Very rarely, temporary mild bruising or blistering may occur in the treated areas, which will resolve in a few days.
Laser Vein Treatment
The CoolGlide Laser aesthetic systems treat a broad range of vessels from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins quickly, safely, and effectively. Patients with dark, light or tanned skin can experience outstanding results with minimal bruising or blistering.
CoolClide systems deliver pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin's surface, where it should be.
Unsightly veins from all parts of the body can be treated. Small, facial veins (or telangiectasia) can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates.
Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated. Since individual results vary, ask your medical professional about your specific condition.
Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment.
Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of the treatment.
Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be removed with the CoolGlide laser system.
